The combined altitude of all seven summits is 26,669 meters, making it a true test of endurance and determination.

The best seasons are spring (April to June) and  late autumn (Nov to December), offering stable weather and comfortable trekking conditions. Winter expeditions are possible but require specialized equipment and experience.

The challenge is physically and mentally demanding due to the cumulative altitude, steep ascents, and back-to-back trekking days. Acclimatisation, endurance, and proper preparation are key to success.

Accommodations include:

If you choose to arrive early or depart later than the stated itinerary then there is an additional cost of €70 for a private transfer.

If you have dietary requirements and or food allergies, please let us know prior to departure. Moroccan food is excellent though not particularly varied. Breakfasts usually consist of bread and ham with coffee or tea. Meals eaten out are reasonably priced – kebab and bread cost only about MAD 70. In main towns, it is possible to find very good French and Moroccan restaurants where a meal and French wine are very reasonably priced from MAD 220 upwards. Generally, dinner is likely to cost between MAD 80-120 depending on what you drink. Bottled drinks are available at very reasonable prices, but alcohol is not widely available in Morocco due for cultural and religious reasons. But still, in some hotels and restaurants, you will be able to purchase beer, wine and spirits, but you will pay imported prices. Please be aware of local laws, believes and traditions, and be very sensitive and respectful while consuming alcohol.

Vegetarians can be catered for but there is a fairly limited choice. This is particularly the case in rural parts of this trip.
Vegans and those on gluten-free diets may find this region very challenging and may need to supplement meals with their own supplies.

You can leave any luggage not needed at our Raid (hotel) in Marrakech.

How Fit Do You Need to Be to Complete the Morocco 7 Summits Challenge?

The Morocco 7 Summits Challenge involves climbing the seven highest peaks in Morocco, including Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa. This is a multi-day endurance challenge, requiring a combination of cardio fitness, strength, altitude adaptation, and mental toughness.

📌 Physical Requirements for Morocco 7 Summits Challenge

1. Endurance & Cardiovascular Fitness

  • You’ll be trekking for multiple days, often 6–10 hours per day.
  • Some routes involve long ascents of 1,200m+ in a single day.
  • The oxygen levels drop significantly at 4,000m+, affecting energy levels.

Training Recommendations:

  • Hike 15–25 km (9–15 miles) with a 12 kg pack at least once a week.
  • Stair climbing (45 min with a 10 kg pack).
  • Running, cycling, or swimming (3–4 times a week, 45–60 min per session).

2. Strength & Load-Carrying Ability

  • Expect to carry a 10–15 kg backpack for multiple days.
  • Some summits involve steep, rocky ascents requiring strong legs & core stability.
  • You may need to navigate boulder fields and exposed ridges.

Training Recommendations:

  • Squats, lunges, deadlifts (for leg power).
  • Step-ups (50 cm box) with a weighted pack.
  • Farmer’s carry (15 kg per hand) for grip & pack strength.
  • Planks & core exercises (for stability on uneven terrain).

3. High-Altitude Acclimatisation

  • Peaks like Toubkal (4,167m) can cause altitude sickness (AMS).
  • Many of the 7 summits exceed 3,500m, making acclimatisation key.
  • The best way to avoid AMS is a slow ascent, hydration, and steady breathing techniques.

Preparation Recommendations:

  • Increase exposure to cold weather & strong winds.

4. Technical Skills & Terrain Adaptation

  • Most peaks involve steep ascents on scree, snow, or rock.
  • Some summits require basic scrambling skills and exposed ridge walking.
  • In winter, crampons and an ice axe may be necessary.

Skills to Practice:

  • Walking on rocky and uneven terrain for hours.
  • Scrambling & basic rock climbing movements.
  • Using trekking poles effectively for long descents.
  • Handling crampons & ice axe (if climbing in winter conditions).

5. Mental Toughness

  • Some summits will push you into exhaustion and cold conditions.
  • The multi-day aspect makes recovery crucial—fatigue builds up over time.
  • Expect early morning summit pushes (3 AM starts) and long descents.

Mental Training:

  • Train in harsh conditions (rain, wind, extreme cold).
  • Hike back-to-back long days (to simulate multi-day fatigue).
  • Train early mornings to prepare for pre-dawn summit attempts.

Just back from an amazing weekend completing the Ireland 4 in 4 challenge. The knowledge and experience Jason and his team have shine through in their organisation of this event. I've been left with so many memories from watching the sun set on one mountain and then watch it rise again on another mountain, my first night hike, meeting new people and having the best laugh. Definitely one to complete! And Jason is the man to do it with!

We chose to climb Kilimanjaro as part of our honeymoon. We had a brilliant time with Jason and his team. The expedition is far more than just the climb. We enjoyed so much of Africa's culture along the way. Would absolutely recommended!

Everything about my trip to Kilimanjaro with Jason Black Mountaineering was wonderful. He is a master at planning and logistics. He leaves no stone unturned. His guides and porters were top class. His chef was amazing at preparing and producing fresh and nutritious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner on the mountain. Two young boys in our group loved pancakes and had them for breakfast each day. I dislike onions and had onion free omelettes prepared specifically for me each morning without even asking. The whole itinerary is published on the website, but Jason’s team still gave a detailed briefing each evening after dinner for the next day. Each morning in our tent, we were woken up by a friendly porter with a cup of specially prepared coffee/tea and a bowl of hot water to wash up. After washing up and packing our provided expedition bag, we would go to the chow tent for breakfast. Our porters would then take our bags and tents and have the whole thing ready for us when we arrived at the next campsite.I am a very inquisitive person and like to know what’s happening ahead of time. Every question I had was answered patiently and thoroughly and obviously been well thought through, allaying any fears I may have had and enabling me to focus on myself. Jason has been climbing the highest mountains on earth for a long time and will advise you on every little detail about high altitude camping, sleeping, acclimatisation, hydration and energy conservation. After a day or two I was confident enough to sit back and trust the process as I knew Jason and his team were highly competent have thought through all the little details freeing me to concentrate 100% on my own well being. I cannot recommend Jason Black Mountaineering any higher. You can’t go wrong with him and his team. Bravo Jason!
On the 23rd July 2022 I arrived in Moshi ,Tanzania Africa. I had not been to Africa before. From all angles I could see the "Mountain" Kilimanjaro after arrival.. It was very clear to me from the engagement with the locals ,the Mountain is everything to the native people of Moshi, its their livelihood. They get no support from the government, even during covid virus .They depend on us visitors coming to climb there Mountain .That's how they earn the salary ,I seen the guides that accomplished my group for the week on the mountain , form a queue to collect the salary the day we returned from summitting the great Mountain. .Jason Black has built a relationship with these local guides ,everything is transpairable and a trust has been formed between Jason and the Lipman team(African guides). The same team that accomplished him in 2014 to accomplish a world record on that same Mountain. It occurred to me the day we arrived all the natives knew Jason Black, they were shaking his hand in the markets and almost everyone seemed to know him. He has such respect for this tribe of Moshi people and there Mountain. Jason was the perfect choice of Mountaineer for me to accomplish my goal/to Summit Kilimanjaro at 59yrs my age at time of achievement. The miracle is ,I choose Jason Black as my leader and anything is possible after that I discovered.AmenBernadette Glancy >Carrick on Shannon
I climbed Kilimanjaro with Jason in August 2022. This trip was truly amazing. From the first moment I contacted Jason I knew this trip would be a genuine African experience. We visited local villages, attractions and a coffee plantation. For me this part of the trip was as good as the Kilimanjaro experience. The Porter crew on the mountain were excellent and very friendly. The food was great and I am very proud to say that my whole group made it to the top! We all had the same mindset of wanting to take our time on each walk, taking lots of photos and having lots of breaks. I cant wait for my next adventure with Jason Black.

In May 2022 I trekked to Everest base camp with Jason and a group from Donegal. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. Jason prepared us so well before and answered every question we had. We experienced the busyness of Kathmandu before taking the non-commercial route to base camp which was really special. Jason’s love of Nepal and respect for the local people was evident every day. He took time to get to know everyone in our group on a personal level and allowed everyone to be themselves. The fact that I am blind was never an obstacle and he made sure to describe everything and let me touch as much as possible on the way so that I didn’t miss out on anything. He challenged us to push ourselves more every day but we always had lots of fun. He is such a positive person to be around with a great respect for nature and other human beings. I’ve learned a lot from him and I’m looking forward to more adventures in the future :-)
Walking in Donegal - what a fantastic weekend in a beautiful place! As a lone traveller, my time at Everest Lodge was more than I could have expected. The warm Donegal welcome, the wonderful homemade food and the easy comfortable atmosphere all made for an unforgettable time. Jason's intuitive capacity to support and guide enabled me, and I believe all of us in the group, to leave on Sunday with a sense of accomplishment, awareness, and the inspiration to crack on with the next adventure, whether big or small. I had the best time ever.

May 2022 - I had a fantastic weekend hiking with Jason and staying at the lovely Everest Lodge - with four others who were also there for the weekend. Despite Jason’s incredible achievements, his demeanour is so ‘down to earth’ and his focus during our stay was on ensuring we were appropriately challenged while hiking, we felt fully at home at Everest Lodge and we had a lot of fun along the way. The ‘Ireland Walking Weekend’ surpassed my expectations at every level and I’d highly recommend hiking with Jason whenever the opportunity arises.

I had a wonderful weekend with Jason and a number of walking enthusiasts in May - would recommend it to anyone, regardless of level of experience in the mountains. Whilst somewhat familiar with the main mountains in Donegal Jason showed us other areas which are kept "under wraps" and hence felt very special to a non-local. I found the guidance with navigation on the mountain particularly helpful and the food over the course of the weekend was amazing!
Unforgettable moments in the world of the tourism industry, , great experience to work with him 😍

Truly incredible adventure with Jason and his team. Safety, inclusion and a genuine care for the outdoors is at the foundation of his group ethos. You will not attend one of his hikes or trips and not take away a valuable piece of information about yourself or the outdoors. I would without hesitation recommend Jason and his team time and time again.

I just got home from doing the 4 Peaks Challenge with Jason and his team. I can safely say it was truly an epic experience and I'd thoroughly recommend it. Jason and the team guided, educated and cajoled us up and down every hill with the utmost professionalism and lovely sharp Donegal wit. Jason's ethos of inclusion and team work is welcoming for a range of abilities. If you're looking for adventure, look no further. I'm certainly going to use him for my next one, I just have to decide which one to choose!

On 2 May 2024 I successfully summited Mera Peak with a group of wonderful people. Jason, his team of Sherpas and porters were fantastic. The trip was really well organised and we all got to experience the amazing Nepalese people and stunning landscape. An unforgettable trip and highly recommended. Thanks Kilian
